Altschloßfelsen at Eppenbrunn

Wenn man aus nördlicher Direction of Pirmasens come from or from B10, then you drive Eppenbrunn on the valley road, lake road (L478) and turn after the village turn right to the parking lot on a spit pond. The junction is signposted from the L478.
For GPS users, the parking lot is after
at UTM 32U 0394960E 5440340N

or in degrees, minutes, 49 ° 06'25''N 007 ° 33'39''E

goes from there continue on foot pike pond on No. 3 road, the Helmut Kohl-way along the small lake in a westerly direction.
The road bends to the left for some time and is growing. The entire route is well marked all the way up to the rock with the round Platikschildchen with No.3 and the PWV-marking white cross. After about half an hour you reach the goal, the impressive Altschloßfelsen to breaking mountain.

The red sandstone formation extends over a length of 1500m and lies at an altitude 406m above sea level. In the course of this circular path, we know from the PWV-marking blue bar oriented. If one follows the path (white-blue) reach the top of the rock a beautiful viewpoint with several tables and benches that invite you to rest. There is no error when there is a jacket above it. Sometimes blows in this exposed body a little more violent wind, which can feel that perhaps the rise even slightly damp sweat shirt cool.
After the Council, it is further along the path that adheres precisely to the Franco-German border and soon bends sharply to the right. The junction is signposted "Vinningen. After another short distance we come to a rock relief, which is the Roman goddess of the hunt, Diana.

Because this work of art has some exposed years (since Roman times) to the weather, and sandstone is not one of the hardest types of stone, is the imagination of the viewer very demanded when Diana, accompanied by their dogs and the war god Mars, next to Silvanus, the god wants to see the forest.
But that it should be telling us the tradition, namely, that has a senior officer of the Roman legions here as a reward for exceptional hunting level, the relief can be produced.
Our path leads us on an old trade route, the road salt that led up to to Metz.
The road was already in Roman times with sandstone blocks attached. Remains of this road surface are partially visible today.

out after a brief climb our way out of the forest in a more open landscape, between the towns by Hilst and Schweik, along the Hilstbaches into the valley to Trualbe. Here we turn right and follow the path with the marker green bar along the idyllic brook Eppenbrunn direction. Just before the site offers a picnic area, the opportunity may be overheated feet in the stream cool.
At the entrance of Eppenbrunn we have turned into "Kuppers Gaad", a very nice restaurant with spacious garden, where can go fill up evaporated liquid reserves in a pleasant way again.
but I warn explicitly against overcrowding, as there is still a little distance to go before we arrive back at the parking lot.
Either walk along the village road to the junction of the L478, this path is almost flat, but is a little further. Or you stick in the city west of the stream and back to rising path follows the white cross, so that you arrive above the parking lot and then back to the familiar path No.3 true back then which one the parking lot below.
Overall, it has come to the circuit described at least 15 km.
If that seems too far that could of course run back after the climb to the Altschloßfelsen the same way again.
In any case, I think this is a worthwhile trip into our beautiful home Palatine
